Monthly Salary Range: US$1,400~1,600 + commission

The Youth Staff must be outgoing while ensuring friendly, jovial and positive attitude with children and parents at all times. The youth Staff is responsible for providing the most FUN and memorable vacations to the younger guests. He/She Ensures the safety and supervision of all children participating in activities. He/She keeps the playroom cleaned and organized as per standards established at the end of each shift. And he/she keeps up the children’s hygiene level by consistently tending to their needs.

Responsibilities and Duties include (but are not limited to)
  • Participates in embarkation procedures by disseminating information regarding the Adventure Ocean Program, Youth Evacuation Plan, and other onboard Youth Programs.
  • Determines the activities to initiate based on the ages and the needs of the children assigned to participate in the scheduled activity.
  • Organizes and leads a variety of established age appropriate activities.
  • Maintains discipline within assigned group to ensure safety precautions are followed.
  • Ensures all operating standards and procedures are executed consistently.
  • Stays “above the line” and accepts ownership for achieving results in all areas of accountability including SGI, ratings, revenue, Workplace Safety.
  • Organizes and leads youth activities, ages 3-17 years, in designated activity centers, assigned areas and throughout the vessel
  • Determines the activities to initiate based on the ages and the needs of the children assigned to participate in the scheduled activity
  • Directs children in eating, resting, and toileting
  • Performs in character costumes during scheduled child and adult activities such as character breakfasts, daytime parade & storytime, and evening photo opportunities.
  • Keeps up the children’s hygiene level by consistently tending to their needs. (Example: Diapering, washing hands, wiping nose, etc.)
  • Intervenes when a conflict arises or when a child needs extra attention or assistance in order to enjoy the activities
  • Communicates with parents in a tactful and courteous manner to generate a high level of comfort
  • Assists the Youth Activities Manager in planning, organizing and implementing entertaining and educational programs for all ages between 3 and 17
  • Serves meals and refreshments to children and regulates rest periods
  • Acts as a role model for the youth with regard to leadership, friendliness, diplomacy, honesty, fair play, sportsmanship and open-mindedness
  • Is present in operational areas during key periods – 80% of time is on floor.
  • Effectively plans departmental activities including cruise grids, events and promotional activities.
  • Keeps all areas clean, USPH compliant and visually appealing at all times.
  • Keeps all equipment properly repaired and maintained.
  • Upholds Brand Service, Safety, Environmental and other company policies and standards.
  • Actively participates in assigned activities including, but not limited to trainings, drills, safety briefings, including “Port Manning”, meetings and performances, as required.
 
Qualifications
  • Experience
    • One to two years experience working with large groups of youths ages 3-17 years in a recreation, education or hospitality setting preferred
    • Experience working in school sponsored youth groups, YMCA, camps or similar positions preferred.
    • Working knowledge of computers, internet access and the ability to navigate within a variety of software packages such as Excel, Word and Power Point.
    • Diploma of Child & Youth Worker, Early Childhood Education or Educational Assistant preferred
  • Education level
    • Bachelor's degree in education, recreation or related field from an accredited university or college or the international equivalent
    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Education/Recreation/Park/Tourism preferred
  • Specific skills & Knowledge
    • Ability to mediate, diffuse and/or resolve problems and negotiate resolutions
    • Ability to design creative activities while containing costs
    • Being professional, polished and guest service oriented
    • Hospitality skills
    • Working knowledge of computers, internet access and the ability to navigate within a variety of software packages such as Excel, Word and Power Point.
  • Language
    • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests
    • Ability to communicate in English to understand, interpret written procedures, give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers
    • Excellent verbal and written command of the English language, knowledge of another language(s) is a plus
  • Personal characteristics
    • Willing to work with children from ages 2 to 11 years old and children with special needs as well as children under the age of 2 years.
    • An outgoing leader of large groups of children
  • Physical abilities
    • Must meet all physical requirements, including the ability to participate in emergency life-saving drills and required training.
    • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Certifications & Licenses:
    • Infant and child CPR certification and life saving certification from the American Red Cross or similar certifying organization.
