This position is responsible for capturing images of guest events, portraits and other photo opportunities, and carrying out sales transactions, whilst delivering excellent customer service at all times. High levels of performance are required at all times, and it will be required to perform some duties alone and without direct supervision
.

Responsibilities and Duties include (but are not limited to)
  • Photographs all requested events onboard and ashore as required, always being proactive to maximize image counts and image quality
  • Wears mascot costumes inside/outside the ship for photo shoots, engaging guests with lively energy and enthusiasm at all times
  • Most likely dresses as a pirate (ships in the Caribbean) and posing with guests (loads of fun but hard work!).
  • Sets up studios
  • Shoots gangway as guests leave the ship in ports of call.
  • Shoots embarkation when new guests board ship on first day of the cruise.
  • Assists ‘smudging’ on gangway (smudging will be explained and trained, basically an aggressively polite way to take photos)
  • Shoots dining room tables on formal nights (twice a week)
  • Works as a retail sales position in the photo gallery selling albums, frames, folios, cameras etc (you earn individual commission on all sales)
  • Effectively handles guest requests and questions (photo department and general shipboard issues) at any time
  • Has available at least 1 x department approved camera body, 1 x department approved Speedlight flash, 8 x Rechargeable AA batteries (2100 mAh or higher), 1 x 4xAA battery charger (suitable for US 110V supply). 
  • Maintains all personal equipment in fully working condition at the owner’s expense.
  • Able to use and familiar with a range of photographic equipment, including but not limited to digital SLR cameras, portrait studio equipment, computers and image editing software
  • Represents the photo department in the best possible light in all guest and crew interactions
  • Covers all photo events as deemed necessary by the Photo Manager
  • Be able to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Be able to adjust to changes in schedules, assignments and deadlines

Qualifications
  • Experience
    • Minimum six months of experience as a photographer preferred.
  • Education level
    • High school diploma or foreign equivalent is preferred.
    • Associates degree or foreign equivalent is preferred.
    • Degree or Diploma in Hospitality Management is an asset.
  • Specific skills & Knowledge
    • Basic knowledge and experience to operate basic computer systems and touch-screen kiosks
    • Ability to work quickly, efficiently, and with the highest standards of customer service to be able to photograph guest events on cruise ships with up to 4000 guests onboard
    • Ability to deliver excellent customer service and sales skills in the Photo Gallery to maximize guest satisfaction and revenue for the Photographic Department
    • Capability of properly handling photographic studio equipment (including lights, backdrops and safety equipment) with due care and attention.
  • Language
    • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests
    • Ability to communicate in English to understand, interpret written procedures, give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers
    • Excellent verbal and written command of the English language
    • Ability to speak additional languages such as Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Italian or Portuguese preferred.
    •  Must be about to speak English plus at least one of the following languages to a conversational/business level (Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese)
  • Physical abilities
    • Must meet all physical requirements, including the ability to participate in emergency life-saving drills and required training.
    • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
